Students will be able to use superlative adjectives specially to describe people, places and animals in oral and written texts.

Dear students the present guide has the pedagogical intention, to know about superlative adjectives, and how we can use them in oral and written texts.

Superlative adjectives

Superlative adjectives are used to describe an object which is at the upper or lower limit of a quality (the tallest, the smallest, the fastest, the highest). They are used in sentences where a subject is compared to a group of objects.

Noun (subject) + verb + the + superlative adjective + noun (object).

The group that is being compared with can be omitted if it is clear from the context (final example below).

Examples

My house is the largest one in our neighborhood.

This is the smallest box I've ever seen.

Your dog was the fastest of any dog in the race.

We all have trees in our yard. My tree is the tallest. ("of all the trees" is understood)

ADJECTIVES WITH MORE THAN TWO SYLLABUS

1 – Los adjetivos de 3 o más sílabas anteponen la expresión “The most “ al adjetivo Intelligent – the most intelligent ( el más inteligente) Comfortable – the most comfortable (el más cómodo)

2 – Los adjetivos de 2 sílabas se pueden formar de las 2 maneras (“The –est” o “the most”) clever – the cleverest / the most clever (el más listo)

3 – Los adjetivos acabados en “-y”, forman el superlative en “-iest” Happy – the happiest (el más feliz) Dry – the driest (el más seco) Hungry – the hungriest (el más hambriento)
