To talk about what you did on vacation you use the past simple, either in positive or negative depending on what you want to say.

By the way, another way to say "vacation" is "holidays".

Although there are many activities you can do on vacation, here are some of the most common ones.

On my last vacation I...

...went/traveled to El Espinal...cooked a new dish...did homework...went to the mall/movies...had a picnic...ate out in a nice restaurant...played videogames...slept late...watched a movie/series...listened to music...helped with the chores...went shopping...exercise ...hung out with friends...went for a walk...visited a relative...read...drew...painted a picture... relaxed and rested...I met a new friend...etc.

The previous ones are just some examples of common things during vacation time; however, when talking about your vacation you can mention anything you want to that amused you or that you did because you had to.

For example: On my last vacation I did the dishes everyday because my mom asked me to help.

If you traveled or went to a nice place, you can also describe the place in question.

If you bought something or went shopping, you can mention what you bought or describe it.

If you tasted a new flavor, you can describe what it felt like.

In short, you can add details to the activity you did or the experience you had

When talking about your vacation, there are some phrases you can use to stand out activities you liked.

For example:

1. What I liked the most was... lo que más me gustó fue...

2. I really enjoyed... Disfruté mucho...

3. I had a great time...La pasé muy bien...

4. I had a blast... Me lo pasé en grande/me encantó.

When describing something you did not like much, you can use phrases like:

1. I did not really like... la verdad no me gustó...

Last year I spent my vacation at the beach. I traveled with some friends of mine. We arrived at the beach at 8:00 AM, we immediately went swimming then we made some sandwiches for lunch. After lunch, we went running and we left the beach before 6:00 PM. We drove back to the hotel and we had dinner there. Around 9pm, we called our friends and we met outside a dance club because we wanted to dance.

***Some of the verbs used in past in the previous paragraph are: spent, traveled, arrived, went, made, left, drove back, had dinner, called, met, wanted.

Remember that to use the past with regular verbs you add -ED, but you need to memorize irregular verbs because they don\'t follow any rules.

Recuerda que para usar el pasado con los verbos regulares añades -ED, pero necesitas memorizar los verbos irregulares porque no siguen ninguna regla.

Write a letter to a friend telling him/her about your last vacation. Remember that a letter begins with the date, a greeting, and then the information you want to include, which in this case is what you did on vacation and at the end of the letter there is a closing phrase, like "hope to see you soon" and your name below it.
