Explicación

EXPLANATION

What are modal verbs?

Modal verbs are used to express certain hypothetical conditions, such as advice, capability, or requests (there’s a full list in the next section). They’re used alongside a main verb to change its meaning slightly. Because they’re auxiliary verbs, they can’t necessarily be used on their own. (A modal verb should only appear alone if it’s clear from context what the main verb is.)

Must – deber

Strong recommendations, strict rules or laws, or when you are certain about something.

Examples:

- This must be the right address, I'm certain!

- You mustn’t walk here. (Strong recommendation)

Have to – Tener que

When you are obligated to do something like study or go see the doctor. It's also used when you feel certain about something. "Have to" is a regular verb but it can be associated with modal verbs for recommendations.

Examples: - I have to study tonight. -

This has to be the right address, I'm certain! (Menos cierto que must)

Should - debería Advice (consejo)

Examples:

- You should study more.

- I shouldn’t eat so many sweets.

Could - podría To give an option

Examples:

- We could have Chinese or Japanese for dinner.

- You could go to America or Australia to practice English
